Staff Accountant - Direct Hire (Rancho Cordova, CA)

Salary: Up to $85k - $95k annually (may flex depending on experience)
Schedule: Full-time, on-site

About the Role

Our client in Rancho Cordova is seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join their growing team. This is a direct hire opportunity with long-term stability and exposure to project-based accounting within a dynamic and collaborative environment.

The ideal candidate brings strong accounting fundamentals along with experience handling WIP, project billings, accounts receivable, and accounts payable. Construction industry experience is highly preferred due to the project-driven nature of the business.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform month-end close activities, including journal entries and reconciliations
• Maintain and update WIP schedules and support job-cost accounting
• Prepare monthly project billings and communicate with project managers as needed
• Manage Accounts Receivable: billing, collections follow-up, cash application
• Manage Accounts Payable: invoice entry, vendor reconciliation, payment processing
• Support financial reporting, account analysis, and variance explanations
• Reconcile general ledger accounts, including balance sheet tie-outs
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and audit preparation
• Work cross-functionally with project teams, operations, and leadership

Qualifications

• 3-5+ years of accounting experience
• Construction accounting experience strongly preferred, but open to candidates with strong project accounting backgrounds
• Working knowledge of WIP, project cost tracking, and project billing cycles
• Strong understanding of GAAP and general ledger accounting
• Proficiency with Excel; experience with construction ERPs a plus (e.g., Viewpoint, Sage Intacct, Procore, etc.)
• Strong communication skills and ability to partner with operations and project managers
• Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple deadlines
